Facebook URLs Get A New Look

Facebook recently announced the introduction of vanity URLs to their pages. What does this mean exactly? It means if you want to send someone to your Facebook page, you can send them to www.facebook.com/DynamicsOnline
as opposed to
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Beachwood-OH/Dynamics-Online-Inc/45519076220?sid=64a1632921eb33c24cbdece985d1dbcd&ref=search.

These vanity URLs will be great branding opportunities and lend themselves extremely well to print, television and radio advertising. Here are a couple rules about the vanity URLs:

  1. Once your name has been selected, you won’t be able to change or transfer it.
  2. If you signed up for a Facebook Page after May 31 or a user profile after today at 3 p.m. EDT, you may not be able to sign up for a username immediately because of steps we’ve taken to prevent abuse or “squatting” on names.
  3. Names will be available at 12:01 AM on Saturday June 13th.

I recommend thinking long and hard about the name you would like associated with your Facebook page, logging in early and when the clock strikes 12:01am, get typing.
